Intro

Colin McRae Rally 2005. Of all the other rally games I've played, definitely the best! I have spend
many hours playing CMR2005. More than Network Q RAC Rally Championship (DOS), where it all
started for me, and more than Mobil 1 Rally Championship and yet even more than Colin McRae 04.
The constant search for a challenge and "the satisfaction of being quicker than someone else"
(Colin McRae), that's what keeps me going. You can easily say I'm a bit of a rally fanatic.

I've always used the keyboard to get myself to the finish. Some years ago when I was still playing
Mobil 1 Rally Championship, I once borrowed the steering wheel from my neighbour though. I was
actually doing pretty good with that thing. It was a lot of fun. Maybe I'll buy a steering wheel once
myself.

My Colin-McRae-Rally-adventure started with Colin McRae Rally 4. I've never played CMR 1, 2 or 3.
The first time I played CMR04, I didn't like it at all and I even uninstalled it. Since I was completely
used to the steering sensitivity of Mobil 1 Rally Championship I really had to get used to CMR04.
A couple of months later I thought I'd give it another try and with succes this time. CMR04 I enjoyed
quite a lot. Especially the multiplayer part, since this was my first rally game online.

I've been around with CMR2005 from the beginning and I still enjoy every minute of it. Compared to CMR04 the surface in CMR04 feels
like driving on ice, but at the same time I miss the online chatbox in CMR04 a lot. I still don't understand why CodeMasters removed it.
Somewhere around march 2007 I started shifting gears manually. This radically changed my driving style and my whole experience of
playing rally games all together. First I was worried yet even more buttons would be too much to handle, but eventually it worked out
very well. It actually gave me more control over the car and of course now I could accelerate much quicker than before! I discovered the
true potential of the Alfa Romeo 147 GTA and the Lancia Stratos this way. Before I changed to manually shifting, I couldn't handle the
Lancia Stratos at all!

As a true competitor I liked the competition on gametimesonline.com, and later on bhmotorsports.com, very much. With a special
program you could upload your fastest stage times to this site and compare them to people all over the world. In 2006 this sadly came
to an end. In 2007 I started hosting my own record chart just for fun. After a couple of months OldreefDK and Birger.DK joined the game,
but when the rest joined up it became a real competition! Enjoy!

Widescreen Setup

I don't own a widescreen monitor myself, but I have noticed that some of my friends who do, despite having selected a widescreen
resolution, are still playing on a 4:3 aspect ratio. Or in other words; the image is stretched.
Although it's a hidden feature, Colin McRae Rally 2005 does in fact have widescreen support out of the box! However, only an
aspect ratio of 16:9 is supported, so people with a 16:10 widescreen monitor will still experience a slightly stretched image.
If you don't know the aspect ratio of your monitor, simply look up your resolution in the following table:

4:316:916:10
1024x7681024x5761024x640
1152x8641152x6481152x720
1280x9601280x7201280x800
1400x10501366x7681440x900
1600x12001600x9001680x1050
1920x14401920x10801920x1200

If you have a widescreen monitor, right-click on the Colin McRae Rally 2005 shortcut on your desktop and select "Properties".
Go to the "Shortcut"-tab and put "widescreendisplay" behind the target (mind the space!).
(Optionally you can also put "novideo" behind the target. By doing so intro movies are skipped.)
Now you should experience a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.

To change the resolution --> ingame Options, Graphics, Advanced Options.
To change the aspect ratio --> shortcut-command "widescreendisplay" for 16:9.

Mouse-over for undesirable situations

I've also made a 16:9 widescreen sample video. Go to My CMR2005 Videos and download the one from 03-06-2010.

Online Gameplay

First of all, if you're about to host your own CMR2005 server online and you're behind a modem/router,
you need to open up UDP network port 30002! Otherwise no one can enter your server!

Beneath you see a screenshot of the configuration panel of my modem/router. The section to forward network ports to my IP
address is called "Virtual Server" here, but it's very well possible within your modem/router's configuration panel it's called
"Port forwarding" or something else.

You also need to enter your network/local IP address.
To find out, right-mouse-click on your network-connection,
click "Status" and go to the "Support"-tab.
Another way to find out is to go to the Start-menu, click
"Run...", type "cmd" and type "ipconfig" in the DOS-window.
As you can see, my IP address is 10.0.0.5.

OldreefDK, Birger.DK and myself are hosting a CMR2005
server too from time to time and everyone is welcome,
BUT we do have some rules:
- Cheaters and people cutting corners or using railings to
gain an unfair advantage will be kicked. (Nikakis couldn't
have explained it any better: "how to get kicked for sure"
(Thanks Nikakis!)
- People who don't make it to the finish within the 30sec will
be kicked to make room for other drivers (only if the server is full). And please don't bother me and other fast drivers by rejoining
the whole time, but rather use this opportunity to get some racing skills by driving Time Trial!

- Idle people will be kicked (people who show no activity within one minute tops).
- People using insulting/offending names will be kicked.
- I'm not responsible for OldreefDK's or Birger.DK's kicking policy! :P

We will always set up a variety of rallies/stages with a mixture of weather types. We will never set up a stage twice in a row!
See you ingame ;)
